Supporting Our Schools

It is no secret that I am a parent. The kids are a big part of my campaign and education of our kids and the children of Louisville is vitally important to our city's future. When my husband and I looked at selecting schools we both found it to be important to be inside JCPS.

We are both long-time supporters and boosters of JCPS. In addition to sending our children to public school, my husband, Jacob, spent a year subbing for JCPS when we first moved back home to Louisville in 2015-2016 before he was admitted to the Kentucky Bar Association . I also have the privilege of being a parent coach of Field's Cross Country team for the last 5 years and being involved in the PTA.  Outside of Louisville, my mother-in-law is a retired Head Start teacher and administrator and numerous members of my family are teachers in the Graves County Public Schools.  Our family is living proof of what an incredible asset our public school systems are in educating, supporting, and guiding our kids. Teaching is a calling and teachers deserve our respect and support.

I am the only parent running in the D9 race and the only person with direct experience within JCPS.

As a candidate, I know the challenges our teachers and staff are facing from both internal forces and external forces on every front (local, state and federal). I advocate for people to not believe the "hype" that public schools "do not work" or "are failing."  But beyond that, I know that a strong Louisville cannot exist without a strong public school system.

There are many things that we can be doing in local government and on Metro Council to support our communities by supporting our public schools. Big things like funding universal, early childhood education and small things like ensuring school bus routes are prioritized during snow removal.

I pledge to be a voice for public schools and foster better collaboration between JCPS and Metro Government.
