2026 Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate Distinction

Recently, I received a notice from the Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund that I am now officially designated as a 2026 Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate. This distinction is an honor. I have long supported and advocated for common sense gun regulation to protect our children, family members, ourselves and our neighborhoods.

Gun violence is the number one cause of death for children and teens in the U.S. As a parent, not a day goes by where I do not hold my breath and pray that gun violence does not meet my children and their classmates at home, at school, or on our streets. Everyday is not a good day for the safety of kids in Louisville. We have far too many incidents of children and teens becoming the victims of gun violence.

In an average year, 880 people die by guns in Kentucky. With a rate of 19.4 deaths per 100,000 people, Kentucky has the 14th-highest rate of gun deaths in the U.S. No one law can stop all tragedies, but there are critical, commonsense steps we can take to save lives. Doing nothing and hoping for the best is not a solution. Locally, I would like to express my support for the Less Is More Gun Violence Prevention Campaign, started by Crescent Hill resident Jane Emke. Jane has taken direct action to reach out to young people and support them in efforts to intervene directly to their peers to stop the violence.s

But we must do more. Legislatively I want to see and support gun safety policies that are proven to save lives, including:

  • Background checks on all gun sales, to ensure dangerous individuals can’t buy a gun with no questions asked.

  • Red Flag laws, which give families or law enforcement a way to temporarily remove guns when they pose a serious threat to themselves or others.

  • Laws encouraging or requiring secure storage of firearms to protect children and adults by preventing unintentional shootings, gun suicides, and gun theft.

  • Getting assault weapons — weapons of war designed to kill as many people as possible, as quickly as possible — off our streets.

It is an honor to be counted among the people determined to make our streets safer with common sense gun laws and I hope you will join me in pushing these policy priorities forward.
